§ COLOPHON — OF RECORD
THE colophon.
Who operates Masthead, the register the concierge composes in, the publishers behind the index, the founding terms, and where the money goes.
A masthead page in the newspaper sense — the document behind the cover where accountability sits.
THE FOUNDER'S MARKUNSIGNED · NEWSPAPER CONVENTIONMost of what calls itself editorial on the open web isn’t. The voices worth reading have been scattered across newsletters, magazines, and small independent publishers — each one excellent in its corner, none of them composable when a reader has a question. Masthead is the attempt at the missing infrastructure: a place where a reader can ask, and the publishers who actually know answer in their own voice, cited by name, paid for the work. Built honestly, in public, with the field — not against it.

§ 02How a dossier speaks
THE THREE VOICESEvery dossier speaks in three registers at once — the same three, every time. The specimens below are set from a real dossier, as composed:
I. THE BODY
Base at Form Hotel in Al Jaddaf — minimalist rooms, walkable to the Jameel Arts Centre, no marble-and-gold fatigue before the weekend starts.[1]
The answer itself — three to five sentences, concise and declarative, every claim cited inline to the exact piece it came from.
II. THE PULL QUOTE
“The Jameel sits low on the creek with a courtyard you can cross in twelve seconds — which is exactly the antidote to a city that measures its art venues in football fields.”
BESPOKE · JAMEEL ARTS CENTRE
One line lifted verbatim from a source piece — anchored to the sentence it supports and credited to the publication, so the writer's own voice stays on the page.
III. THE PENCIL
Al Jaddaf — metro stop opened, 12min to DIFC
The margin notes — practical asides in the editor's hand, each tied to a phrase in the body: timings, bookings, the thing you'd scribble for a friend.
§ 03The type
